I remember starting 2007 with a two-post series on health resolutions. Looking back at those posts, I have to be honest and say that I stuck religiously by my resolutions for about a couple of months and then slowly reverted to old habits. They do die hard, don’t they? I am happy to say, however, that I was able to keep some of them – like eating a good breakfast and eating more slowly.
This year, I though I’d focus on something other than diets. I just realized how little attention I have been paying to visits to the doctor – I hate going to the hospital. So this year, I thought it would be a good idea to
pay my doctor regular visits just to make sure that nothing is wrong. I should get some use ...

A week or so ago I wrote a post on hangovers and the fact that they have no real scientific cure as of yet. I came across an interesting article in iVillage, though, that talks about different cures for hangovers – basically variations of hair-of-the-dog. I thought I’d share them with you. I don’t know about you but I sure could use something to get rid of this headache…

When talking about Christmas and health, the natural tendency is to focus on the physical aspect such as weight loss or maintenance and hangovers. That is what we have been talking about in the past few posts. Yet have you ever given some thought on the emotional stress that Christmas can bring about?
Think about it, all the hustle and bustle associated with this particular holiday can become very stressful if not dealt with properly. More so, there some emotional issues can arise due to the sense of duty associated with Christmas. What am I talking about?
Let me ask you this question: Have you given gifts (or are you planning on giving gifts) to your colleagues at work? If so, is everyone included in your list or just a select few?
I read about how people can ...

If you are hosting parties or gatherings at home during the holidays, the chances are that you will be spending a lot of time in the kitchen. This could be both a good thing and a bad thing. The good part is that you will have more control over what you serve. You can choose healthier food which will help you – and your guests – maintain a healthier lifestyle during the holidays. On the other hand, spending a lot of time in the kitchen can be a bad thing if you keep on tasting what you are preparing. So this is my suggestion –
avoid eating while cooking. It is, of course, necessary that you taste you concoctions to make sure that they are perfect. However, do not go beyond the mere tasting – these little things ...

In the previous post, I ended with the tantalizing idea that you just maintain your current weight instead of trying to shed more pounds during the holiday season. Yet how exactly do you do this? There are many ways and means, really. I think, however, that there should be a basic rule that you should follow –
eat only what your stomach can hold, chew your food slowly, and do not rush eating.
More so,
do not make the food the focal point of parties and other gatherings. After all, what is the main reason that you are at the party or gathering? It is probably to spend time with your friends and/or family, right? So instead of focusing solely on the delectable food in front of you, extend your horizons and mingle and focus on the ...

The Christmas season is perhaps the toughest part of the year when it comes to weight management and overall fitness in general. Think about all the cooking, eating, drinking, and partying that you will be doing in the next weeks and you will totally understand what I mean. Year in and year out, this has been an issue with most everybody.
How do you enjoy the holidays without losing everything that you have worked for – weight wise?
If there is one thing I could tell you, it is this – do not force it. I mean, do not try to go on a strict diet during this period. It is hopeless, I tell you. Unless you have the will power of a saint, you will just end up losing the battle and probably make things worse. ...

There is no better time to get a hangover than during the holidays, am I right? Even though you may not intend to drink too much, you just sort of get caught up in the festivities and before you know it, you have had a drink too many. Of course, that is still fun. The morning after is a different story. So how do you deal with a hangover?
Different people have their own tested and proven cures although science says that there is no conclusive evidence as to how hangovers can be cured. However, there are things that you can do to help alleviate the indicators of a hangover.
I suppose the best thing to do would be to drink moderately. If you can’t help it – I don’t blame you – then here are a few things you ...
Don’t rush it
When at a buffet, do not give in to the tendency to eat quickly so that you can hurry back to the table for seconds. Rather, eat slowly (small portions so that you’ll have enough space in that tummy) and then before going back to the buffet table, take your time and decide whether you can really handle more servings. This will eliminate your risk of overeating and then suffering from the consequences later on.
Don’t overdo it with sugar
If you love sweets, you might have a problem here but remember that moderation is they key. Why do we need to watch what we eat when it comes to sugar? Because a lot depends on it – when sugar levels skyrocket and then crash, the urge to binge becomes strong. So if we overdo it with ...

There is no doubt about it – Christmas is the time to feast and eat as much as you can, right? Well, that is if you want to feel unwell the day after you go about your feasting. It is true that is very hard NOT to indulge yourself when Christmas time comes around. After all, it is not everyday that something like this comes your way.
I don’t know about you, though, but I’d rather enjoy myself during Christmas and not feel ill afterwards. Here are some tips to keep that bloat away during the holidays.
Choose what you eat
This is common sense, really, but what I want to point out is that you should not over indulge in dishes that you know will give you indigestion later on. Focus on the healthy but sumptuous dishes. Eat more smoked ...
