Polycystic ovary syndrome is a relatively common condition in women, although it is not often diagnosed. With advancement in technology and more awareness, more women are able to determine if they are suffering from this syndrome, also known as PCOS. The condition is characterized by numerous small cysts in the ovaries, which interfere with the production of hormones. As a result, the male hormone testosterone is produced in higher quantities. The effects are manifested in various ways, some of which include fertility problems, irregular menstruation, obesity, and even increased risk for type 2 diabetes and heart problems.

The exact cause of PCOS remains a mystery to doctors and researchers. However, the symptoms are clear and some researchers believe that it is closely linked to an over active sympathetic nervous system. This system is what controls involuntary bodily functions such as the dilation of pupils.

A group of Swedish researchers conducted a study recently, wherein women with PCOS were divided into three groups. The first group underwent electro-acupuncture (a weak electric current is passed through the needles). The second group underwent a guided exercise routine (at least three times a week). The third group had no additional treatment or instructions. The findings? The activity of the sympathetic nervous system of the first two groups was considerably lower and the women who had acupuncture had a plus: more regulated menstruation. More than this, they also had lower levels of testosterone.

If you have PCOS or know anyone with PCOS, you might want to consider acupuncture.

People are now more health conscious than ever before and who wouldn’t with the dozens of infectious diseases and health risks that we face each and everyday. Life has gotten a lot healthier with respect to how commerce has changed and adjusted preferences to make them healthier. More and more people are opting for the healthy lifestyle as they begin to realize the advantages of good health that can take them well after their prime.
From proper exercise, diet and living, seems we all been bit by the health bug. Mother nature has produced for us some of the healthiest and most powerful healing plants that are enough to rival a pharmacy. Herbal cures for aches and pains have long been known to our ancestors and are again today being called upon by modern medicine as the primary source of our best drugs. From the common cough and cold, to immunity boosting food we are beginning to realize they have much to offer.
Anti-oxidants that eliminate free-radicals, particles that causes cells in the human body to die off prematurely hastening aging process. Rediscovered food crops known to ancient man are once again called upon and are only now being recognized for the huge amounts of vital minerals and vitamins they have always contained within them. Sadly, most of the world’s virgin forests are declining at an amazing rate that many of mother nature’s hidden gems may never be found. Let us all take up the cause of preventing the destruction of such vaults, of knowledge and life by supporting environmental movements. Check out One Big Health Nut where some of the best and healthiest nuts on the net can be found. For life and for health.

If you have been paying attention to the ads on many web sites and blogs today, you probably have noticed that many of them pertain to colon cleansing or colon irrigation. I certainly have seen a lot of them recently. This has prompted me to look this thing up and find out if it really has health benefits. After all, if many people are interested in it, it should count for something, right?

What is colon cleansing anyway? It is basically a process wherein your bowels are cleansed thoroughly by ingesting supplements that will loosen and remove build up in your colon. As a result, you would have to do number 2 a lot.

Proponents of colon cleansing believe that the process has a lot of health benefits. These range from removing toxins from the body to boosting energy to lessening the risk of cancer. Yet do doctors have the same view?

Based on my research, it seems that medical doctors have not really found scientific evidence as to the purported health benefits of colon cleansing. According to Michael Picco, M.D., they do not recommend colon cleansing for better health or disease prevention. The rationale behind this is:

•	It’s unnecessary. Your colon doesn’t require enemas or special diets or pills to eliminate waste material and bacteria. It does this naturally on its own.
•	It may be harmful. Your colon absorbs water and sodium to maintain your body’s fluid and electrolyte balance. Some colon-cleansing programs disrupt this balance, causing dehydration and salt depletion. Long-term or excessive cleansing programs can lead to problems such as anemia, malnutrition and heart failure.

I guess I am not going to try this method for now.

Men who take natural supplements, this news is for you! Reuters just published an article on two men developing prostrate cancer after ingesting herbal supplements to boost their sexual performance. These men had been taking the supplements for months when they were diagnosed with advanced prostrate cancer. Here’s an excerpt of the article:

Roehrborn’s team became concerned about what they call herbal/hormonal dietary supplements, or HHDSs, after two men developed aggressive and incurable prostate cancer within months of taking the same supplement.
They analyzed the product, which they did not name for legal reasons, and found it contained two hormones — testosterone and estradiol. When they tested it on tumor cells in the lab, they found it fueled the growth of prostate cancer cells more potently than testosterone alone, they reported in the journal Clinical Cancer Research.

Of course, we cannot generalize and say that all natural supplements can cause prostrate cancer. However, the lesson here is that not all natural supplements are safe. Just because something is natural does not mean that it can cause adverse effects of humans. I find it quite alarming because this is the common idea that we have. If something is natural, it should be better than the synthetic concoctions that companies come up with, right? I guess we should all take heed of what happened to these two men. The best way to go would be to consult with your doctor first and see what would be the best course of action for you to take regarding your particular condition and needs.

One of the noticeable things that have been happening today is the fact that people have been more health-conscious. This includes the proper selection of food and resources such as organic food to which most organization producing them have used affordable search engine optimization practices like the ones by Los Angeles SEO as a means of drawing the crowd.

Organic eating is the in-thing we have today. People have to eat wisely and be sure that their intakes are indeed healthy for the body. While people may not like the taste of pure organic food such as fruits and vegetables at first, it just takes some time to get used to.

Look at it this way, you eat the dangerous food we all know today and you may end up sitting on a health diet soon. So why take the hard road to it when you can avoid the additional medical expenses right?

Digestive disorders that would come normal would include that of consuming something that the stomach would not like. In other cases, it would include food intake of something that may have been already spoiled thus leading towards discharge of wastes and toxins that may become uncontrollable.

Loose Bowel Movement (LBM) is a natural occurrence where much of the body minerals would be affected as well. Changes in the bowel movement are sure to occur in bad digestive instances. Experiencing stomach cramps, slight chills and the usual uncomfortable feelings are among the things to watch out for in such cases.

The best way is to continuously drink water as a form of therapy since LBM drains the body of its liquids at times. Gatorade has been known to be a good alternative to drink up because of its amino acids that would ensure that the body would still have the necessary proteins and to avoid dehydration.

People are not always aware of their current state of physical condition by simply looking at the mirror or relying on what they feel at present. The need to undergo certain medical examinations and physicians advice are the best ways to go about the overall assessment of a persons current health status.

The common belief for some is that unless they feel something strange, they would not go to their physician for medical evaluation. With the trend today leaning more towards being health conscious, regular physical examinations are slowly becoming a regular practice to safeguard their overall hiatus.

Diseases and illnesses have slowly been spreading and resorting to the possible immunizations brought about by advanced medicine is a good way to avoid illnesses that can make a persons life dreadful. Physical examinations can be availed of even for just once a year and practicing this from a 365 day period in a year does not really take up much of a persons time.

People who would normally spend most of their time in front of computers and not getting enough sleep to recharge their body are bound to reach a point where their 20/20 vision may get affected. Growing eye bags and twitching muscles behind the human eye are indicators of abused use of the sense of sight, also warning beforehand a person that he should also learn to rest his eyes from time to time.

While people cannot help such need to embark on body abuses relating to work and pressure stemming from their duties, it is best to adjust the whole body clock to adapt to change temporarily. Everyone will come to a point where they would have to slow down and realize that bodily abuse will catch up with them.

Vitamins and supplements may help in providing preventive maintenance, but this alone cannot help cure such illnesses. It will also need the cooperation of a person for it to work, otherwise, it is just like burning money for nothing at all.

For athletes and people who engage in strenuous activities that need the extensive use of their legs, encountering cramps would appear at some point. Continuous running or sprinting will surely result in cramps, especially for people who do not do the necessary warm-ups and stretching exercises that athletes should be initially doing.

Leg cramps is usually seen in sports where running is a primary key towards playing the game. Basketball, swimming, and track and field events would normally be the common sports that would see players encountering cramps. The use of the legs would be the main part of the body that needs to be used in able to play the sport the way it should be.

Muscles would reach a point of hardening when the salt levels of the body would start to deteriorate from excessive sweating. Hence the proper amount of salt intake is important. It should be taken into account that the perspiration or fluids produced include the body minerals and nutrients. To treat cramps, people must keep their legs straight and be sure not to bend them. Doing so will only add to the pain that they will be experiencing.

Insomnia is a sleep disorder that has been rampant for people who have had a hard time reverting back to the normal body clocks. Insomnia has so far altered the body clock, resulting into problems that people who report for work on a regular 8 to 5 shift due to absences and tardiness.

While there are people who seek medical attention, it all boils down on how the person would be determined in finding out how to regulate their sleeping habits once more. There will always be Valium to help people sleep at preferred times but the normal recourse would be to try and re-adjust the body clock.

Physicians who would stay away from prescribing medical drugs, would advise patients to drink warm milk and even drink vitamins before they sleep. While the latter would be up for questioning, the explanation behind it is simply filling in the lost nutrients that a body would normally have and thus make people more comfortable and relaxed, thus pointing towards sleeping for a complete body rest at the right time when a person should be taking his long deserved sleeping habit.
