Working Out Should Be Fun

Written by Charlie on November 18, 2010
The biggest hindrance to working out and exercising, I think, is the fact that not many people enjoy it. I hear a lot of people saying I would work out or go to the gym but I don’t really like it. Some find it boring. Others simply find it too hard. Is there any way around it? I think so. I believe that getting the proper exercise that we all need is a matter of finding something that you actually like doing. How do you think those people who go to the gym on a regular basis keep it up? They probably like what they are doing. Of course there will always be those people who do it because they have to and they have the willpower to do so – ...

More Parks For Health

Written by Charlie on October 29, 2010
One of the things that I miss most living in the city (as opposed to the suburbs or the country) is having a park or field to go to for relaxation. I am sure that I am not the only person who thinks in this way. In fact, even city officials recognize the need for some greenery in their cities. Here is an added incentive for this – a study has shown that parks help narrow the health gap between the rich and the poor. Richard Mitchell from the University of Glasgow, together with his co-researchers, released their findings recently. CBC News Canada ran this feature story: Green spaces like parks and forests help narrow health gaps between the rich and poor living in cities, say researchers who are urging urban planners to invest in ...

Kicking the Morning Sickness Habit

Written by Charlie on September 24, 2010
Some people may wake up in the morning and start sneezing, coughing or may sound drowsy. These unusual habits are often referred to as morning sicknesses, stemming from inherent traits or surroundings that may be polluted at times. This is why the cleanliness of surroundings has been given much premium since the after effects will surely turn out after some time and not immediately.
Pregnancy Morning Sickness
Morning sickness would usually be such reactions that would occur when a person would wake up after a good night's sleep. This habit is considered to go on and on for years to come. While there is no clear explanation on how to cure such, they usually would last for an hour or two and would suddenly disappear as fast as it came. For pregnant women, this is normal since their immune system is a whole ...

Insomnia. Why Suffer In Silence?

Written by Charlie on June 23, 2010

It is commonplace for several people to suffer at least an occasional night of almost non-existent sleep. The causes of insomnia differ from person to person. What made a student insomniac varies from what caused a shift worker or a traveler or an employee to acquire such sleeping disorder.

Insomnia, which is the inability to sleep satisfactorily or to have any sleep at all, is one of the most common sleep disorders. It is characterized by restlessness, sleep interruptions, decreased sleeping time than the usual, or sometimes complete wakefulness.

Aside from the annoyance that insomnia can cause to its sufferers, this sleep disorder causes those afflicted to lose enthusiasm and energy, acquire memory and concentration problems, feel lethargic, frustrated, and of course sleepy. Worse cases that may be induced by insomnia is one's being prone to accidents, reduced work productivity ...

Have A Healthy And Safe Christmas

Written by Charlie on December 21, 2009
christmas-party1Last weekend was crazy for me. Ever since the beginning of December, I haven’t had a decent weekend of rest. I suppose it is the same for everyone who celebrates Christmas. Parties are being held left and right practically every day. The weekends are the worst, when you might even have to go from one party to another just to accommodate your friends and family members. While I am not complaining – it has been the most fun period of this year – I do realize how potentially hazardous all this can be to my health; and you should realize this as well! With less than 2 weeks left before the end of the year, I am sure that you still have a lot of activities and events to engage in – do take a look ...

Heavy Drinking = Dementia

Written by Charlie on May 25, 2009
binge-drinking2We all know that alcohol is not good for the health, at least too much of it. Every time I think about this topic, I remember that line from an old Star Trek book I read as a teenager; something about alcohol being a poison that man imbibes voluntarily. I think it was from the book about Spock dying…. Anyhow, this knowledge has not sunk in for so many people. Even with hard scientific facts, hard drinking seems to be prevalent in many nations. There is even this recent study about how heavy drinking is the cause in 1 out of 4 cases of dementia. MSN Health has the story: Three UK newspapers, The Daily Mail, The Telegraph and The Guardian, reported on Monday that excessive alcohol consumption could be to blame for one in four ...

Tobacco Taxes: Good News For Your Health

Written by Charlie on March 29, 2009
smokerWhat is your excuse NOT TO STOP smoking? I think that I have heard them all. Here are some of the most common (and some ridiculous actually). -I can quit anytime. I am not addicted. -I don’t want to quit because I will get fat. -I can’t quit because I am not ready. -I can’t quit because it’s my only vice. After all, it is not that expensive of a habit. Hold there for a second – the last reason is about to go down the drain. Tobacco taxes are going up this Wednesday, and they increase is touted to be the largest increase ever. This means that smokers are going to get hit big time. In this time of economic troubles, even a small increase is bound to affect purchasers of tobacco. The Associated Press ...

Heads that Ache…….. Really!

Written by Charlie on February 4, 2009
headacheEveryday, millions of people suffer from the dreaded headache sending you to grab that pill you oh so love to take away the pain. The fast paced lifestyle we all engage in doesn't help and the stresses of the day just keep piling up leaving us weak and fatigued. Readily available OTC drugs may offer relief but that may not be the best solution for the dreaded headache. Your lifestyle may be the primary cause adding the stress you go through each and everyday, might be the culprit. Men are less likely to suffer from chronic pain due to extreme activities than men due to the hormone testosterone which has been shown to help lessen the damage to muscles and tissue, thus leaving women to suffer more. Statistically, women suffer an average of 15 episodes that can ...
