DiabetesStudies have shown that pregnant women and new mothers that have diabetes are in far greater risk for developing post partum depression (PPD). Though the reason for the higher risk is not yet exactly known what is known is that out of 11,000 women who were enrolled in New Jersey’s Medicaid program 15.2 percent of those that had diabetes became depressed during pregnancy or up to a year after birth. The percentage of diabetic women who did not suffer from postpartum depression is significantly lower at only 8.5 percent. What this means for expectant mothers is that if routine diabetes tests give you a positive result you should also discuss with your doctor the possibility of post partum depression and ways to prevent and manage problem. Insomnia is a sleep disorder that has been rampant for people who have had a hard time reverting back to the normal body clocks. Insomnia has so far altered the body clock, resulting into problems that people who report for work on a regular 8 to 5 shift due to absences and tardiness.

We all know that this is a big no no. One thing that coffee drinkers find really frustrating about carrying another life inside of them is the fact that one of their lifelines – coffee – is being denied to them. Yet there seems to be hope for us! A recent study conducted in Denmark showed that it is in fact, quite all right for women to continue having their daily coffee intake during pregnancy. According to Bodil Hammer Bech, Ph.D., of the Institute of Public Health at the University of Aarhus, three cups of coffee a day didn’t have any effects on the baby.
