Written by Charlie on January 30, 2010
So we talked about cutting back on calories when you’re having a drinking session with your friends. Now how about when you’re going about your daily routine? Let’s talk coffee. Of course, you’d have cravings for frappes every now and then. Go ahead, just skip the whipped cream! Now on to dessert…my sweet tooth gets the best of me sometimes. Here’s a trick that I’ve ...

Weight Loss And Psychotherapy For Teenage Weight Loss

Written by Charlie on January 15, 2010
42-20056766Losing weight is an ever popular topic, isn’t it? One thing I have noticed lately, though, is that weight issues are being faced by the younger generation more and more. Perhaps at their impressionable age, the weight issues they face are even more critical. Just last month, during the holiday break, I noticed that my younger cousins – aged from 16 to 20 – were all dealing with weight issues. And when I read a feature article on MSN about teenagers and weight loss, my interest was really aroused. Basically, the article says that a psychotherapy program may work better to help teenagers deal with weight issues and avoid obesity. This is in comparison with traditional health classes. I agree with the idea of the program mentioned, which “focuses on improving interpersonal ...

Eat Much?

Written by Charlie on November 6, 2009
bottled-waterIf you had asked me this a month ago, I would probably have laughed and said “You think?” I have been experiencing some drastic changes in life, though, and about a month ago, I couldn’t focus and couldn’t even muster enough desire to eat. Of course, I did eat a little, and after a couple of weeks, I started eating “normally” again. However, at that point, it seemed that my stomach had gotten used to not eating much, so I was able to lessen my food intake. I do fully understand what it feels like to want to keep on eating, especially if the food is good. For those of you who think they eat too much, here are some simple tips which can help you. I have tried them myself, and they work! Have ...

Perhaps, if we look at some of the factors that contribute to the failure, we can make some changes and lose weight for real AND for good. The feeling of deprivation is never good. Sadly, this is one common factor in a lot of weight loss programs. Individuals are restricted severely when it comes to food intake, resulting in the feeling of deprivation. 3092_MEDIUMWhen you go to the grocery store to stock up your pantry, do you have a list? Or do you go through each aisle and just pick up whatever item you feel like taking home with you? It may be oversimplifying things, but if you tend to do the latter, you just might be an impulsive buyer. And guess what? But what about taxing soda in order to help fight fat? Well, if the U.S. health authorities are to be followed, we will soon be paying a lot more for sodas and other similar sugary drinks. 1010046610If you grew up with a mother like mine, you would have been grown up with the thought that chewing gum is bad. And of course, as you advanced in years, you would have tried chewing gum yourself and perhaps even picked up the habit of chewing one constantly. I do like chewing gum every now and then but I have never taken to it like some people do. There is something that you should know about chewing gum, though. According to a recent study conducted jointly by the Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge and the Pennington Biomedical Research Center, chewing gum may help people lose weight! The study had people chew gum and offered an eat all you can snack table. The snacks were categorized into simple sugars and sweetened food. The results ...

overweightThe next time someone tells you that you have gained weight, point them to this blog post. A recent study conducted in Canada has yielded some interesting results with regard to being overweight. According to a story ran by The New York Times, the study was done on over 11,000 Canadian adults. The results showed that people who are a bit overweight, but not obese, are less likely to die than those who are not overweight (READ: NORMAL weight). The category of overweight covers people who have a Body Mass Index (BMI) of 25 to 29.9. In addition to this, people who are underweight – those who have a Body Mass Index of less than 18.5 – are more likely to die than the people who weigh normally. Obviously, this finding is going to be well-received by ...

Fat Can Make You Thin

Written by Charlie on April 16, 2009
b-babyFor real? That sounds real oxymoronic, if anything else, but researchers have pinpointed a kind of fat that just might be the key to battling obesity. The new buzzword these days is “brown fat,” and no, it is not a racist thing. Brown fat is actually the informal term used to refer to brown adipose tissue. This type of fat is what babies, young children, and other young mammals use to keep warm. It works by burning calories in order to release heat, and the action is triggered by low temperatures. Now you can see how brown fat can be used to burn off those extra calories, can’t you? The question is whether or not adults have brown fat, and the good news is YES, we do. In fact, the recent research points to this – ...
