Carpal tunnel syndrome is often experienced as well by people who use the computer often notably typing on the keyboards for hours. The nerves in the wrist area are usually affected causing pain when you move it.
Problems with eyesight is another complaint by many writers. This is due to staring for hours on a computer screen, reading text with small fonts and not taking breaks or exercising the eyes in between work.
Eyesight issues can sometimes lead to insomnia particularly if the irritation persists. When insomnia strikes, there’s bound to be difficulty in concentration later on when one resumes work.
Back and neck problems are also reported by many writers who can get really engrossed with their work. Bad posture can also cause these issues.
How to Avoid Them
Doing regular exercise and taking breaks in between work are the best ways to avoid these health issues associated with a writing job. Several studies have already proven that sitting for long hours can shorten one’s lifespan so better heed what the experts are saying.
Standing and walking around every 15 minutes should do you good. Exercising your arms and neck every hour is also helpful.
For the eyes, make sure to focus on a distant object for a minute or so every 15 minutes especially if you’re using a computer continuously.
Sit straight with a good back support to keep your back upright and maintain proper posture. Investing in a good ergonomic computer chair is also a good idea.
