Your health is important, and while people that have no issues with all of their senses may take them for granted, there are problems that can happen. You are lucky to see and hear clearly, and it can be very traumatic to lose any of your five senses. But how is it that people can lose things like smell and taste?
Well, it is possible. Your hearing and sight aren’t the only senses that can be lost or diminished. Here are some of the things that can affect your senses.
You use your hearing everyday, from listening to the people around you to listening to the television. Without hearing, you would not be able to listen to music, TV, other people, or anything, for that matter. Whole plenty of people survive in the world without hearing, why not work to protect yours.
That means wearing earplugs when you will be around loud noises, and learning the safe and proper way to clean your ears. If you experience ringing in your ears or any amount of hearing loss, talk to your doctor.
For most people, eye problems come with age. However, some people are born blind, and some children need glasses at a young age. People are born with lazy eye issues, and more. These are things you deal with as they come along.
You do want to get a yearly eye exam though, to make sure that your sight is good, and to allow your eye doctor to look behind your eye at all the components that keep you seeing, Eye exams to help with early detection of blindness, glaucoma, and other eye issues.
There are illnesses that can cause you to lose your sense of touch. Most commonly, though, an injury to your nerves, such as a broken limb or spine, or trauma of some sort, can cause loss of feeling. If you have nervous system issues, this too can be an issue.
If you are not smelling things normally, or at all, it could be something as simple as a cold or sinus infection affecting you. However, it could also be something more major, such as tumors, polyps, or even something wrong within your brain. If you don’t have a cold and you’re sense of smell is gone, or not normal, talk to your doctor.
If there is something wrong with your sense of smell, then it will commonly affect your sense of taste as well, since they both work together. But you can also lose your sense of taste on it’s own. As you get older both of these senses can wane some as well, just like your other senses.
