Back to Brushing Basics

Dental hygienist showing patient how to brush correctly

Oral hygiene is very important but most of the times we do not pay that much attention to it. Sure everyone brushes their teeth but do you brush your teeth properly?

According to dentists when you brush your teeth you should:

Have your toothbrush at a 45 degree angle to your mouth. No need to measure but just make sure you angle your toothbrush.

Brush your teeth for at least 3 minutes. That means the hurried brushing each morning before rushing off to work is not enough! And you wonder why you have cavities and your breath still stinks doesn’t smell that great.

Brush in a circular motion. Up and down is not the way to go. I know that’s the way most of us are used to brushing but I guess we should start doing it in circles if we want to get a more thorough brush.

Floss daily. Some studies show that flossing is more important than brushing! I’m not saying you should just floss and skip the brush but still flossing regularly should become a habit for everyone.
