A week or so ago I wrote a post on hangovers and the fact that they have no real scientific cure as of yet. I came across an interesting article in iVillage, though, that talks about different cures for hangovers – basically variations of hair-of-the-dog. I thought I’d share them with you. I don’t know about you but I sure could use something to get rid of this headache…
Buck’s Fizz
INGREDIENTS:
1 measure fresh orange juice, chilled
2 measures champagne, chilled
1 dash grenadine (optional)
Grenadine is a concentrated, blood-red syrup made from pomegranate juice
PREPARATION:
Simply pour the orange juice and champagne into a frosted glass. Add a dash of Grenadine if desired.
Banana Milkshake
INGREDIENTS:
300ml full-fat milk, chilled
1 tbsp clear honey
1 tbsp double cream
1 fresh banana
PREPARATION:
Blend all ingredients together, preferably with some crushed ice.
Basic Prairie Oyster
INGREDIENTS:
1 whole raw egg
1 dash Worcestershire sauce
salt and freshly ground black pepper to taste
Pregnant women, infants, the elderly and those with a compromised immune system should not eat raw or partially cooked eggs
PREPARATION:
Carefully crack the egg into a glass without breaking the yolk. Season with sauce, salt and pepper, and down in one.
Bloody Prairie Oyster
INGREDIENTS:
2 tbsp olive oil
1 measure brandy, whisky, vodka or spirit of your choice
dash Worcestershire Sauce
1 tbsp tomato ketchup
salt
1 whole egg yolk
Pregnant women, infants, the elderly and those with a compromised immune system should not eat raw or partially cooked eggs
PREPARATION:
1. Rinse out a half-pint glass with the olive oil, discarding the oil.
2. Add all the ingredients except the egg yolk and mix by swirling the glass.
3. Separate the yolk and carefully slide it into the glass.
4. Drink in one, without breaking the yolk.
