I am sure all of you have had some experience with absent mindedness. Whether it be yourself who has suffered from this condition or another member of the family or a friend, absent mindedness has probably been part of your life at least once. This is a common occurrence in people reaching the half century mark.
What can you do to prevent or improve such a condition? A recent study shows that folic acid may be the key. The study’s results show that people who took high doses of folic acid for three years showed marked improvement in mental functions. Such functions are Short-term memory, mental agility and verbal fluency.
That is indeed great news for everyone. The benefits of folic acid on brain development have been known for a long time. In fact, pregnant women are often prescribed folic acid supplements to facilitate brain development in their babies. Now, more than that, folic acid supplements may actually be used for other purposes. Aside from brain functions, folic acid may also prevent the risk of cardiovascular illness. This is according to Swiss researcher Jane Durga.
Of course, the researchers are quick to point out that additional research is needed in order to have more conclusive evidence. The Food Standards Agency is actually suggesting that folic acid be incorporated into flour. However, researchers hold firm by their stance that more research is necessary before taking such steps. You can consult your doctor if you think folic acid will be beneficial to you personally.
