The flu targets the immune system and causes various symptoms from fever, headache and body aches to dry cough and chills. It can last from a week to 10 days.

While this illness can be cured by taking over-the-counter medications, you can always turn to using the natural remedies. There are different kinds of home remedies for the flu and they use ingredients you already have at home. It’s been proven that they help strengthen the immune system and fight the flu virus that attack your body.

But did you know that among the natural home remedies available, the one that uses ginger is the winner?

Ginger has been used since the ancient times and it is considered very effective because it not only fights the virus, bacteria and fungus but it also has anti-inflammatory properties.

This root that carries the scientific name Zingiber officinale contains gingerol which is an essential oil.

This particular oil when it gets into the body stimulates perspiration, lowers fever and loosens mucus or phlegm in the sinuses and lungs.

To treat flu symptoms, it is recommended that you drink several cups of hot ginger tea every day until you’re well. Simply slice or shred fresh ginger and let it sit in a cup of hot water for 15 minutes. You can drink it plain or you may add lemon or honey.
