Identifying Baldness in Women

August 22, 2011 By dave

Baldness is an issue faced by both men and women. However psychologically, women suffer more than men. If you feel like your hair is thinning, you need to take actions immediately. It is only natural to lose at least a hundred hair strands a day but if you think you are losing more than that then this is probably caused by underlying health problems. It is therefore important that you go immediately to a doctor. But before you do that here are some tips that you can use to identify baldness:

Identifying baldness

First of all you can wash your hair. As mentioned earlier, hair fall is natural but too much hair fall is not. Check the drain to verify whether you are losing more hair than you used to. After the shower, comb your hair and see if they are coming out in clumps. You will immediately notice the change if you are suffering from baldness.

Next, check if there are bald spots. Sometimes these may be hard to see, especially if they are coming from the back of your head. Ask someone to check it out for you. You may also check your hairline. If you are noticing changes such as the hair line gradually receding, it clearly indicates hair loss.

Preventive measures

After confirming that you are losing hair, consider getting professional help. If you think it’s too early for that, you may want to check out the causes of your hair fall. It might be caused by hormonal imbalance. If your thyroid gland is overactive or inactive, it may cause your hair to fall out. You should also avoid straining your hair follicles too much by wearing tight ponytails or cornrows. Sometimes these may scar your scalp causing permanent baldness in that area.
