We all know that consuming too much alcohol is not a good thing. For one, too much of it can cause irreparable damage to the liver, which processes everything that goes through our bodies. However, is there any truth in the belief that alcohol can make people fat?
You’re probably thinking – now where did this come from? It’s just that the weekend has been a hectic one for me, in social terms. We started
partying on Friday night and continued for the next two nights. Naturally, this morning has not been kind to me. It got me thinking about the various effects that alcohol can have on the body.
Anyway, I looked it up and found material wherein someone actually sent in a very similar question:
Will wine make me fat?
So what ...

I love the Mythbusters – don’t you? I think that this show is one of the best that the Discovery Channel has ever produced. They are not they only ones who are on a mythbusting mission, though. In fact, there are many others who like to bust myths. Take the editor of Men’s Health over at MSN. An article called “
The Truth Behind Five Food Myths” was recently published. Let us take a look at some of them.
Myth No. 1: High protein intake is harmful to your kidneys
The origin: Back in 1983, researchers first discovered that eating more protein increases your "glomerular filtration rate," or GFR. Think of GFR as the amount of blood your kidneys are filtering per minute. From this finding, many scientists made the leap that a higher GFR ...

It may be oversimplifying things, but if you tend to do the latter, you just might be an impulsive buyer. And guess what? Researchers say that financially impulsive people might be damaging more than their checking accounts! In fact, they go as far as to say that those who are financially impulsive actually overeat, damaging their health as well!
The Telegraph reports about the findings:
Researchers asked over 40,000 people if they would prefer £45 in three days or £70 in three months. Those who wanted the smaller amount were also impulsive in other areas of their ...

During my vacation a couple of weeks ago, I met some new friends from various countries. Several of them were from North America while one was from Europe. We had the chance to have dinner together and I realized some things while we ate. We had ordered a big meal – we didn’t know that the servings were going to be that big!
As we ate, I noticed that the guys from North America started wolfing down the food while the guy from Europe took his time. The discussion eventually touched on eating habits. The guy from Europe explained that in his country, they took meals leisurely and would sit down for hours at the dinner table. On the other hand, the guys from across the ocean noted that though this is also done in ...

When people hear the words
Raw Honey, they usually associate it with uncooked meat or vegetables. What come to mind are kinds of food that are better when they are cooked and not edible when they are raw. With raw honey, the product is unpasteurized, unheated and it’s basically straight from the bee hive.
The fact is that raw
Honey is the best kind around. Royal jelly and other types of honey may be promoted as being very healthy but nothing beats the nutritional value that you might get from the former. For one, it is alkaline forming which means that when its ingredients are broken down in your stomach, they become alkaline. This is good because it counteracts acidity and that will keep you healthy and safe from sickness and bacterial infections.
Another reason why it is healthy is because it is packed with anti oxidants that boost ...

We've heard of dietary supplements, which is really an umbrella term for more specific kinds of supplements. Perhaps one of the most common - and widely accepted - supplements are
vitamin and mineral supplements. Even as children, our pediatricians would recommend these. Of course, with time and age, the nature of vitamin and mineral supplements has changed.
Vitamin and mineral supplements are a way to make up for possible deficiencies in our
diets. That means whether or not you are trying to lose weight, you may need vitamin and mineral supplements - that is if you want to be healthy. So what vitamin and mineral supplements should we take?
It really depends on what you need. I tried doing a little research and ended up overwhelmed with the available supplements in the market. My local pharmacy was not much help either. However, in my research, I came across ...

If you had asked me this a month ago, I would probably have laughed and said “You think?” I have been experiencing some drastic changes in life, though, and about a month ago, I couldn’t focus and couldn’t even muster enough desire to eat. You’ve heard it, read it, and seen it – organic is the way to go. Not only do you do your part in helping out the environment, you also eat healthier and do yourself a favor. But is this really true? Does organic food really make you healthier?
According to the Food Standards Agency of Britain, eating organic food does NOT provide additional health benefits. As shocking as it may seem, the FSA strongly stands by its statement. Early this month, the agency made the announcement that the nutritional differences between organic and conventional food are insignificant – practically amounting to zero. The study was conducted by
Dr. Alan Dangour and his team at London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine (LSHTM).
Naturally, this announcement sparked a debate all across the country. Organic food advocates ...
